Reality Has Set In!

Connor is officially real.  Last night when I was changing his diaper he farted and shot poop across the room.  Joe and I have had to pull out two long, stringy, sticky boogers.  And, this morning, he peed and spit up on Joe.  Plus, I cannot figure out when he is going to eat or sleep (I guess he's just not quite ready for mommy's schedule).  He decided to whine from 4 am until 7 am this morning.  How is it that Joe can sleep through the whining the entire time while I hear every little sound?

Even though we've run into all the disgusting and annoying stuff, Joe and I couldn't agree more that we just love Connor to pieces and bits!  We are so proud to call him our son and enjoy just laying in bed with him in between us as we watch TV or chat.  We even ate breakfast (dry Fruit Loops) in bed this morning so we could hang out with the boy!

All in all, I just keep reminding myself that the sleep deprivation should only last a few more weeks and Connor will eventually learn mommy's schedule (he better since I go back to work  in 5 weeks!).  Mommy and Daddy love you Connor!

Getting to know Connor

Joe and I have had a blast getting to know Connor this week.  Even though he is only 5 days old, he does some super cute stuff!  Whenever he doesn't want something, he shakes his head back and forth like he is saying NO!  Also, he has what I call shifty eyes.  If he hears a noise or something he'll start shifting his eyes back and forth like a detective trying to figure out what is going on.  I love it!

Connor hadn't had  a bowel movement since we came home from the hospital - until last night that is!  At 4:30 in the morning, he decided to go, so we changed him.  Then, in the middle of his snack, he decided to go again!  So, as we were changing nasty diaper number 2, he started going again!  Luckily we had him on a burp cloth and not our bedspread cause it got nasty.

I know it is probably gas, but Connor has been smiling at Mom and Grandma Janet all day today.  We just cannot get enough of our precious baby boy!  More pictures to come later...

Labor and Delivery

So when I started timing my contractions it turned out they were 8 minutes apart.  And they hurt!  My doctor had given Joe and I the 5-1-1 rule...don't come to the hospital until the contractions were 5 minutes apart, 1 minute long, for an hour.  Well, the contractions decided to stay 8 minutes apart until 7:30 that morning!  That was 7 plus hours of agonizing labor because they wouldn't come any closer together!  Finally I decided I couldn't take it anymore and I woke Joe up.  He told me to see if they would get any closer together for just a little bit longer.  When he woke up, they decided to come down to 7 minutes apart!  20 minutes later they came down to 6 minutes apart, and I said, that's it, we're going to the hospital!  We got up and brushed our teeth, gathered our things, and headed for St. Francis South Hospital.  Driving the 15 minutes from our house to the hospital dropped my contractions down to 2 minutes apart!  Right when we pulled into the parking spot, I decided to sneeze and ended up peeing my pants!

We got up to the third floor and they put me in Labor Room 6.  By the time I was checked and admitted they told me I was dilated to a 6!  We checked in at 9:05 am.  By noon, I was dilated to a 10.  However, Dr. Williamson was at the other hospital delivering a baby, so I waiting until sometime in the 3 o'clock hour to begin pushing.  Less than an hour later, at 4:14 PM on Sunday, January 18, Connor James Coakley was born weighing 7 lb 13 oz, 20 inches long and absolutely beautiful!

After labor, I apparently lost too much blood because I got faint and nauseated.  It took a few days for my blood levels to return start climbing.

Working up to labor

Thursday afternoon, January 15, is when my body began preparing for labor.  I had a little big of the runs, plus my doctor checked my dilation and said I was between a 3 and 4.  I went home that night and my body just kept cleaning itself out.  Joe and I went to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings after I had taken a bath and just spent the evening relaxing and begging our son to come out!

Friday at school I had more of the lovely diarrhea.  I didn't feel very good, but I thought that the baby was going to be stubborn since I had absolutely no sign of labor.  Sara took Joe and I out to eat at Olive Garden and I felt like I was eating my last meal out before I had the baby.  I was right!

Saturday I woke up pretty early, but after being up for only a couple of hours, I got really tired and went to lay down.  I pretty much slept until 3 o'clock that afternoon when I had to get up and get ready for church.  We went to eat dinner at the Smith's after church and watched the movie Baby Mama.  We kept saying how funny it would be to go into labor after watching that movie!  We went home and I was super tired and my back had been aching throughout the entire movie, so I decided I was going to go to bed.  I felt like I was having really bad menstrual cramps, so I decided to time them just in case...
