My Smart Boy!

I always knew Connor was so super duper smart! Every time we are in bed just hanging out, he is forever trying to go head first onto the floor and we have to constantly supervise his antics. Well, this morning he turned his little body around and slowly lowered himself down - feet first! Yay for my super smart boy! Next step? Standing on our own!

Connor's latest snack.

So Connor hit a super awesome milestone this morning (said sarcastically). I was in his room picking out his clothes for the day and all of a sudden I heard a sucking noise. I started thinking, what could he be sucking on, there is nothing laying out in the hall way. Then it struck me that I had not closed the bathroom door after I peed this morning. Of course, Connor had fished a piece of toilet paper out of the urine-filled toilet and was sucking on it. I almost threw up! So gross.

8 month old update

Connor finally started crawling on his knees yesterday instead of doing the worm. Joe and I were so excited. Hopefully he'll stop spitting up as much with this new development! He is pulling up onto everything in sight and is quite the chatterbox. This evening he is just laughing at anything and everything.

The Coakley family is excited to carve our first Halloween pumpkin tonight. We are going to carve a Jack-o-Lantern and then I am going to use the insides to cook. I haven't decided what to do with the innards yet, so any ideas are welcome!

Joe and I look at Connor and cannot believe that almost 9 months have passed. It has just flown by! He's eating at the table with us now each night for dinner and Joe and I have enjoyed family prayer over the meal.

He Loves His Daddy!

Last night Connor was eating with his back to the door.  Joe walked in and said hello and Connor stopped eating and his whole face went on alert.  When Joe said something else, Connor got a huge grin on his face and just started trying to find his dad, but the position he was in didn't let him turn around all the way so he started twisting his body and laughing trying to see his daddy.  SO CUTE!

4 month check up

We had Connor's 4 month well check this morning.  He got two shots and drank another immunization.  He only cried for a few minutes!  The doctor says he is healthy and doing fantastic!

He weighs 12 and a half pounds, which puts him in the 5th percentile.  His height was 24.5 inches in the 25th percentile, and his head circumference was also in the 5th percentile.

We have been approved to start on rice cereal until he is 5 months old, in which case he wants us to move on to yellow veggies.

He Rolled Over!

Last night was our first night to just let Connor cry himself to sleep, with us checking on him often, of course. About an hour into his fit, he got so mad, he swung himself over onto his tummy. Joe and I couldn't figure out if it was a fluke or not, but this morning he did it two or three times in the living room. So, he can officially roll over! Yay!

Connor cried off and on from 12:30-3:30 with either Joe or me laying next to him. He finally went to sleep sprawled out on his belly and it was the cutest thing ever! Hopefully tonight is a little less time. The nurse at the pediatrician's office said it would take about 3-4 nights for him to figure out that we aren't going to pick him up every night so that he'll just sleep. Pray that is the case!

Temperature

Connor woke up this morning at 3:30 with his first temperature - 102. We gave him some Tylenol and a couple hours later it had dropped to 100.9. Before I left for work we had it down to the 98/99 range. Nurse says it sounds like he is fighting a virus. Poor kid! Joe stayed home with him today.

Con Man Update

So we've switched to soy formula because Connor broke out when he had the regular. Don't know the cause, but he's done it twice from my milk as well and I can't figure out the common factor. We've had to use more formula lately because he is eating so much and I just can't keep up!

We went for a weight check on April 3. He was 10 lb 10 ounces. He's slowly gaining. Hopefully he'll grow into his 3-6 month clothes soon since he'll be 3 months old in two days! I can't believe how old my little guy is getting to be!

We've now experienced our first few giggles and he is just as happy as can be...most of the time. He still acts as if he's dying if he doesn't get food right when he wants it.

Joe, can you think of anything else to add about our cool kid?

Sick Baby

Last night Connor had his first illness.  Poor guy.  He threw up 6 times within an hour.  I called the after hours nurse and she said to go ahead and take him to the ER because with babies this young they have to worry about dehydration.  So we sat there for 3 hours to find out that he had a stomach virus, but he was able to hold down the Pedialyte they gave us so we were sent home.  I want to know why they couldn't have just told us to try Pedialyte first before we dragged him off to the hospital.  And who knows how much that visit is going to cost!  Oh well, you live, you learn.

Connor came home and slept from 11 pm until 5 am!  He is feeling much better this morning, but we are skipping church just in case he spreads it to someone else.  We have our sweet happy baby back!

Correction

My friend informed me today that Connor is not a chunk, so I asked Joe what his measurements were.  I was going to look it up the averages on babycenter.com, but then he told me that the nurse wrote them on the sheet they sent home with us.  It turns out our baby is teeny tiny!  He is 25th percentile in height, 10th percentile in weight, and 5th percentile in head circumference!  What a wittle guy!

Pray for us over the next two weeks.  Connor will be going to two different people's homes, plus one day at home with dad because my cousin's son has been exposed to the chicken pox!  I don't know how he is going to handle all of the changes we are throwing his way, poor guy!  Plus I am way exhausted from lack of sleep, so I will need all the strength and sleep I can get to finish out this school year.  LORD HELP ME!

2 Month Check Up

March 18 was Connor's 2 month check up at the pediatrician.  He is doing fantastical!  He is 22 inches long now and weighs 9 lb 14 oz.  What a chunk!  He also had to get 3 shots.  He did so great...he screamed until he got fed, got his shots, and then finished eating.  No more tears after that!  So while I was at the doctor's office, I noticed they had several copies of Baby Wise and Toddler Wise.  I wonder if they hand those out or sell them...

Joe and I have been taking Spring Break to get Connor sleeping through the night.  Although it was a fight at first, it has gotten much better.  However, I CAN'T SLEEP!  It is so annoying.  Connor will probably be waking up here in an hour and a half and I don't even feel sleepy yet.  Is there anything you can take while breastfeeding?

I really wanted to work on getting back into shape while we were having this nice weather, but it seems like instead of taking a "Spring break" I have been trying to play catch-up with housework, bills, and errands.  And, Connor is still on a 3 hour routine, so it makes it hard to get a lot done before I have to feed him again.

Rachel's First Day Without Connor

Well, I made it through my first day and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

This afternoon has been pretty draining. My 4th, 5th, and 6th hours are full and are quite the handfuls. Dealing with them on little sleep is tough! Hopefully Connor gets better at sleeping through the night soon so I can have more patience. On a better note, all of my students were so glad to see me today. They did not like the substitute.

47 school days left this year...

Connor vs. the Giraffe

Connor slept last night from 9 until 2:40 and then again until 7 am!!!!!

Of course Joe and I think Connor is the cutest thing ever, but Saturday he had us cracking up.  On his bouncer is an orange giraffe that hangs down right in front of his face.  We were getting ready, taking showers and all, so he was in the bathroom with us sitting in the bouncer.  Every time one of us checked on him he was still doing the same thing...glaring at the giraffe!  At one point he even started batting at it like he wanted to kill it.  However, Joe and I determined that the giraffe won the battle because Connor looked away first.

Since he did sleep so well last night, he has been the happiest baby so far this morning!  He's just playing on the quilt Granny Janet made for him.  Yay for a good day!

Quality Time with Connor

Joe and I had some super fun with Connor tonight.  Joe sang "Walk It Out" while Conor and I danced.  It was fun.  Now he is fighting sleep big time!

On another note, Connor slept 7 hours last night! Yay for sleeping.  Unfortunately, I did not sleep as long or as well.

I started working out today to try and get back into better shape than before I was pregnant.  Joe started working out last week as well.  We are both praying to get back into better physical shape than before we were pregnant because we want to be healthy for our baby boy.  It's hard when you are running on fumes from lack of sleep!

That's all for today's Coakley Family update.

23 days old

Today was another doctor's visit for Mr. Connor James Coakley.  He gained 7.5 ounces this past week!  He now weighs 8 pounds with an extra half ounce.  My little boy has become a pig!  His length is 21 inches, which puts him in the 90th percentile for length!  He's tall.  I don't know where he gets it from, because I certainly did not contribute to his height!

After the doctor, we went to lunch with Alison and Ashlin who were also at the doctor.  Ashlin had to get her two month shots.  Connor will be getting those on March 18.  The lactation nurse thought it was hilarious that Connor and Ashlin knew each other and that Alison and I joked about them being boyfriend and girlfriend!

Connor may experience his first tornado today...we'll see.  He did experience his first elevator ride today at the ESC.

Reality Has Set In!

Connor is officially real.  Last night when I was changing his diaper he farted and shot poop across the room.  Joe and I have had to pull out two long, stringy, sticky boogers.  And, this morning, he peed and spit up on Joe.  Plus, I cannot figure out when he is going to eat or sleep (I guess he's just not quite ready for mommy's schedule).  He decided to whine from 4 am until 7 am this morning.  How is it that Joe can sleep through the whining the entire time while I hear every little sound?

Even though we've run into all the disgusting and annoying stuff, Joe and I couldn't agree more that we just love Connor to pieces and bits!  We are so proud to call him our son and enjoy just laying in bed with him in between us as we watch TV or chat.  We even ate breakfast (dry Fruit Loops) in bed this morning so we could hang out with the boy!

All in all, I just keep reminding myself that the sleep deprivation should only last a few more weeks and Connor will eventually learn mommy's schedule (he better since I go back to work  in 5 weeks!).  Mommy and Daddy love you Connor!

Getting to know Connor

Joe and I have had a blast getting to know Connor this week.  Even though he is only 5 days old, he does some super cute stuff!  Whenever he doesn't want something, he shakes his head back and forth like he is saying NO!  Also, he has what I call shifty eyes.  If he hears a noise or something he'll start shifting his eyes back and forth like a detective trying to figure out what is going on.  I love it!

Connor hadn't had  a bowel movement since we came home from the hospital - until last night that is!  At 4:30 in the morning, he decided to go, so we changed him.  Then, in the middle of his snack, he decided to go again!  So, as we were changing nasty diaper number 2, he started going again!  Luckily we had him on a burp cloth and not our bedspread cause it got nasty.

I know it is probably gas, but Connor has been smiling at Mom and Grandma Janet all day today.  We just cannot get enough of our precious baby boy!  More pictures to come later...

Labor and Delivery

So when I started timing my contractions it turned out they were 8 minutes apart.  And they hurt!  My doctor had given Joe and I the 5-1-1 rule...don't come to the hospital until the contractions were 5 minutes apart, 1 minute long, for an hour.  Well, the contractions decided to stay 8 minutes apart until 7:30 that morning!  That was 7 plus hours of agonizing labor because they wouldn't come any closer together!  Finally I decided I couldn't take it anymore and I woke Joe up.  He told me to see if they would get any closer together for just a little bit longer.  When he woke up, they decided to come down to 7 minutes apart!  20 minutes later they came down to 6 minutes apart, and I said, that's it, we're going to the hospital!  We got up and brushed our teeth, gathered our things, and headed for St. Francis South Hospital.  Driving the 15 minutes from our house to the hospital dropped my contractions down to 2 minutes apart!  Right when we pulled into the parking spot, I decided to sneeze and ended up peeing my pants!

We got up to the third floor and they put me in Labor Room 6.  By the time I was checked and admitted they told me I was dilated to a 6!  We checked in at 9:05 am.  By noon, I was dilated to a 10.  However, Dr. Williamson was at the other hospital delivering a baby, so I waiting until sometime in the 3 o'clock hour to begin pushing.  Less than an hour later, at 4:14 PM on Sunday, January 18, Connor James Coakley was born weighing 7 lb 13 oz, 20 inches long and absolutely beautiful!

After labor, I apparently lost too much blood because I got faint and nauseated.  It took a few days for my blood levels to return start climbing.

Working up to labor

Thursday afternoon, January 15, is when my body began preparing for labor.  I had a little big of the runs, plus my doctor checked my dilation and said I was between a 3 and 4.  I went home that night and my body just kept cleaning itself out.  Joe and I went to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings after I had taken a bath and just spent the evening relaxing and begging our son to come out!

Friday at school I had more of the lovely diarrhea.  I didn't feel very good, but I thought that the baby was going to be stubborn since I had absolutely no sign of labor.  Sara took Joe and I out to eat at Olive Garden and I felt like I was eating my last meal out before I had the baby.  I was right!

Saturday I woke up pretty early, but after being up for only a couple of hours, I got really tired and went to lay down.  I pretty much slept until 3 o'clock that afternoon when I had to get up and get ready for church.  We went to eat dinner at the Smith's after church and watched the movie Baby Mama.  We kept saying how funny it would be to go into labor after watching that movie!  We went home and I was super tired and my back had been aching throughout the entire movie, so I decided I was going to go to bed.  I felt like I was having really bad menstrual cramps, so I decided to time them just in case...
